Susan died on September 22nd at the Caroline Kline Galland Home but now basks in the light of God's face. She also lives on in the hearts of her beloved daughter, Rainie Sunshine, her son-in-law, James Frazier, her grandchildren, Kai Frazier and Aina Sunshine-Frazier, her brother, Brian Ulrickson, her sister-in-law, Lyn Miletich, her long-time dear friend, Cecile Depanfilis, and her many other friends and cousins and other relatives.
A Seattle native and lifelong resident of greater Seattle, Susan was born on April 5, 1948 at Virginia Mason Hospital. Her parents, who preceded her in death, were Vivian Oretta Heffernan Ulrickson and Burton Lloyd Ulrickson. Her older brother, Harlan, also preceded her in death.
Susan graduated from St. Francis Assisi Elementary School and Holy Rosary High School. She attended Seattle University, where she earned a BS degree in nursing.
Her livelihood for most of her adult life was nursing, briefly as an LPN and then as an RN. She worked in emergency departments at West Seattle General Hospital (now-defunct) and at Highline Community Hospital (now St. Anne's Hospital) in Burien. Between her times at West Seattle and Highline, she managed a work clinic in Riverton. Her shifts in the ER departments were nighttime shifts, which explains her night-owl hours - late to bed, late to rise.
Susan had a genuine green thumb. She loved growing vegetables and flowers and shrubs and trees. She frequently took long walks in her bright orange safety vest while cleaning up the roadside, gathering recycling and cleaning all items to be recycled. She was frequently seen wearing a Seahawks jersey, warming herself with a Seahawks blanket, and sporting Seahawks decals on her car.
In lieu of flowers, her family recommends donations to the Kline Galland hospice program and to the Providence Hospice of Seattle foundation.
