Margaret Virginia Reid

October 7, 1938 — April 14, 2026

Margaret Virginia Reid, a longtime Snohomish County resident and Washington educator, peacefully passed away on April 14, 2026, at the age of eighty-seven.

Born in Boston, Massachusetts on October 7, 1938, she was the first child of the late William Joseph Reid and Marguerite Marie Pohl Reid. Margaret devoted her life to learning and to helping others discover their own passion for learning. A graduate of Cathedral High School (Springfield MA) and the University of Massachusetts, she taught school and served as a librarian, enriching generations of students with a love of reading and research.

She was married to the late Robert J N Rousseau, and the mother of three children: Anne-Marie Christine Rousseau, Stephanie Marie-Claire Rousseau (Jeff Kissell), and Vincent Joseph David Rousseau (Robin Van Ausdall). She was the grandmother of Ariel Margaret Louise and Annalise Annette Christine Rousseau. She is also survived by her sister, Helen Reid Stewart of Lenox, Massachusetts, and her children, Trevor, Lance (Mona Sihota), and Sarah Stewart. Daniel Newton Irving, her longtime “Domestic Associate”, died in July 2020.

“Miss Marge”, as she was known to her legions of friends from her myriad of interests, was kind, curious, and quietly adventurous. Although she was a Boston Red Sox fan by birth, she adopted her beloved Seattle Mariners team and, later, the Seattle Kraken. Everything she did, she did with passion. A lover of trains, she traveled across North America by rail several times, stopping frequently to meet people she had encountered through her genealogy research. Often donning one of her signature hats, she loved to garden, to read, to knit, to birdwatch, and - delightfully - to play Pokémon, especially with her dear friend, Lynn. Her wry wit will be missed by many.

An avid genealogist, Margaret volunteered with the Sno-Isle Genealogical Society teaching workshops and delighting in helping many families to trace their roots and further support them on their journey into family history.

Services and burial are planned at the family plot in Wellesley, Massachusetts in October 2026.

Margaret’s family extends their gratitude to her friends and to the staff at Brookdale Arbor Place in Everett for their kindness and support, and to her incredible team from Continuum Care Hospice for their loving care for Marge and her whole family.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor “Miss Marge’s” memory are encouraged to make a donation to the Sno-Isle Genealogical Society at 19827 Poplar Way, Lynnwood, WA, 98036, or to your local library.

Messages of condolence may be shared with the family.
