It is with heavy hearts that the family of Kenneth John Elslip announces his passing on Monday November 3rd, at the age of 95 in Lynnwood, from Parkinson’s disease.
Ken was born in Seattle on August 1st, 1930, and is survived by his wife, Phyllis, sons Jon and Brian, as well as 3 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
Ken grew up in Ballard, graduated from Eastern Washington University, served in the Korean War, and had a successful career as a science teacher in the Shoreline School District.
Ken was many things during his long life, a devoted father and husband, educator, soldier, seaman/radio technician, national park ranger, sailor, boat & cabin builder, and a commercial fisherman.
He was a great lover of the outdoors and made efforts to expose his children to a variety of different outdoor environments, teaching them to fish, sail, snorkel, and about botany and geology. He was a pious man who regularly attended St Thomas Moore Catholic Church, where he sometimes volunteered.
Ken will be remembered for his tireless work ethic, love of the sea and everything outdoors, his sharp wit, and his willingness to share and to help anyone in need.
