Juanita Nordin, age 99.5 passed away gracefully at home on August 7, 2025. She was born in Tacoma and later moved to Seattle. She graduated from Queen Ann High in 1944. Juanita studied at the University of Washington and married John Nordin. She worked at Seattle City Light while he continued his education. Juanita was a dedicated home maker and full time mother after the birth of her children until the mid 1960’s. She then returned to U of W to pursue a degree in art history, but continued running the household. In the early 1970’s she returned to the workforce for the City of Seattle. She was employed as an administrative assistant for the Property Recovery unit of the Police Department. She was a dedicated hard worker who became the “Den Mother” for the squad. Juanita was a deeply caring and nurturing individual who baked the best cookies in the world! She loved growing flowers, berries and vegetables and continued gardening well into her 90’s.
Juanita was an inspiration to all who knew her. She loved her family and took great joy in their accomplishments. Her broad smile and laughter brightened every room. She learned of Magnolia Lutheran Church through their annual Swedish Pancake breakfast and became a devoted member through the last decade of her life.
Juanita was predeceased by her parents and husband, John, of 70 years. She is survived by her son Eric Nordin (Melisa), daughter Valerie Nordin Sanders of Perry, Georgia, grandson Riley Sanders (Manojna Konda) of Little Rock, Arkansas, grandson Zachary Sanders (Caitlin Hodges) of Norman, Oklahoma and granddaughter Carlye Kumpula (Ethan) of Kathleen, Georgia, as well as great grandchildren, Mila Sanders, Ada Kumpula, Ellis Kumpula and Charles “Ray” Sanders, several first cousins and two nieces. Juanita also had a special adopted family of caregivers, Leona, Jane Li, Lyle and Pastor Kevin.
A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date.
