Evelyn A. Clark, age 79, passed away peacefully on January 15, 2026. Born in Seattle, Evelyn spent her life in the Pacific Northwest.
Evelyn graduated from the University of Washington and began her professional career in corporate marketing. In time, she followed her creative passion, leaving the corporate world to devote herself fully to knitting design. Her talent and dedication earned her international recognition, particularly for her exquisite Icelandic lace collections, which garnered widespread acclaim.
Evelyn wrote several books on knitting and lace design. Her expertise led to invitations to teach in Iceland, where she shared her knowledge and love of traditional lace techniques. She later traveled to Belgium to co-author a book on Icelandic lace, further solidifying her place in the international knitting community. In addition to her work abroad, Evelyn taught locally at classes at the Nordic Museum and in cities across the United States, inspiring countless students with her warmth, patience, and artistry.
Books and Dogs were another passion throughout Evelyn’s life. From an early age and always by her side, her dog was part of her daily joy and companionship.
Evelyn was loved by her family and friends and will be profoundly missed. Her gentle, creative spirit, and generous heart, will live on in the many lives she touched and in the beauty she created. Her memory will continue to bring a smile to all who knew her.
She is preceded in death by her father Harry F. Pohlman, and her mother Mary Ellen Pohlman; Evelyn is survived by, sister Mary Elsner, brothers John, and Harry (Julia) Pohlman; niece Kayla (Viktor) Laszlo, and nephews Michael (Mary) Elsner, Benjamin (Laura) Pohlman, Eli (Victoria) Mellor, four great-nieces and one great-nephew.
Remembrances should be sent to the Seattle Public Library Foundation, or the Humane Society for Seattle/King County.
