Dean passed away with his wife at his side, following years of battling many medical issues. Dean was born in Ballard in the house he grew up in, which he was very proud of. He graduated from Ballard High School in 1957, then continued education in college. His parents purchased a cabin on Lake Goodwin when he was 13 years old. They spent many weekends & summers enjoying the lake, cabin and community, which created many treasured memories. Dean, along with his parents, were one of the founding families of the Lake Goodwin Community Club, and the 1st Fire Station at Lake Goodwin, raising money to build both. Dean continued his parents’ legacy.
Dean married and became the father of two children, David & Deana, they were very active in the Shoreline schools and community. He enjoyed his life with fishing, boating, bowling, golf, high school sports and Boy Scouts with his father. As an adult he returned to the Boy Scouts of America, along with his son and became a Scout Leader. Many of the boy scouts and their families became lifelong friends. Dean worked in the carpet business, as a manager at Sound Floor Coverings and enjoyed his 29 years there.
Dean remarried in 1987 to Marlis, they enjoyed 37 years together. They replaced the Lake Goodwin cabin with their dream home and the Lake and Community became their passion. They organized the Boat Parade which became an annual event. Dean & Marlis were active in the Lake Goodwin Community Club of which Dean was a president. Dean became a Snohomish County Fire Commissioner for the Marysville Fire Department District 20, and Lake Goodwin District 12, where he served and was dedicated from 1994-2006. He and Marlis loved being involved with the Fire Department and enjoyed being with the Fire Fighters and their families. Together the Lake Goodwin Community Club along with the Fire Department would put on an annual easter egg hunt at Wenberg County Park. Many people will remember Dean as the acting “Easter Bunny”. He would arrive in the Aid Car where about 200 children along with him would search the park for the hidden eggs. Then on Easter Morning the Easter Bunny & his wife would go around Lake Goodwin in their boat and hand out easter candy to all the children who waited on their docks. What Fun it was for All! Christmas was another time that Dean enjoyed bringing happiness to the children and their families as Santa for the Lake Goodwin Community Club and made visits to Children’s Orthopedic Hospital.
In 1989 Dean moved from Sound Floor to the Safeway Ice Cream Plant, in Redmond. There he adopted a whole new family of friends and totally loved working there. After his passing they stated Dean was a real gentleman, a great co-worker and such a kind man, and that he was.
Upon retiring from Safeway, Dean started his own business called McReynolds Custom Carpet and Binding which included carpet binding for yachts and small airplanes. Together he and Marlis developed a large base of accounts and served fourteen carpet stores from Lynnwood to Mt. Vernon. He retired that business after 19 great years.
Dean’s last 16 years were spent living in Wandering Creek, a Senior Park in Bothell, where he enjoyed being involved with that community.
