Cathy Ann Wingert

Cathy Ann Wingert, a longtime Seattle resident, passed away peacefully on May 14, surrounded by her family. She was 81 years old.

Born in Detroit, Michigan, to Richard and Catherine Canaan, Cathy graduated from East Detroit High School. In 1966, she married Albert Edward Wingert, a relationship that would span over 60 years and become the defining love story of her life. Together they raised two children, Theresa Renee and Steven Michael.

Over a 35 year career, Cathy worked in Executive Management and Human Resources, beginning as a secretary and ultimately serving in executive management roles. She was admired for her professionalism, warmth and strong work ethic.

In her younger years, Cathy enjoyed bowling with her league in Detroit, where she met the man who would become her husband. Higher education university study brought the couple to Seattle, and they created a life together in the Pacific Northwest.

Animals held a special place in Cathy’s heart from an early age. She often spoke of her dream of attending veterinary school, a path she had hoped to pursue before life’s responsibilities led her in a different direction. Her compassion for animals remained constant throughout her life and was reflected in the care she extended to every creature she encountered.

Cathy found joy in growing a vegetable garden, following baseball, cooking family recipes from her native Lebanese heritage and working jigsaw and Sudoku puzzles. She appreciated life’s simple pleasures and loved to drive fast; she approached the world with a feisty enthusiasm.

In 2020, Cathy suffered a stroke and spent the following six years facing its complications. Through this challenge she was supported by the care of her husband. Their enduring love remained a source of strength and comfort, with Albert by her side until the very end.

She is survived by her husband, Albert, her daughter and son-in-law, Theresa Wingert and Ryan Gallagher, her son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Andrea Wingert, and her grandchildren Sofia Elyse and Griffin Reece Alexander.

In accordance with her wishes, no services will be held.
