It is with deep sorrow and love from family and friends that we mourn the passing of Bonnie Jean (Ivers) Brunton, 82, of Seattle, who departed this life on December 27, 2025. She leaves behind her beloved husband, Thomas A. Brunton; her sister, Shirley (Ivers) Rutz (John Rutz) of Port Angeles; her brother, Patrick Ivers (Cathy Ivers) of Seattle; along with many treasured nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, extended family, and friends who will miss her dearly. She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas Ivers and Marie Ann (Schatz) Ivers; her brother, Tom Ivers; and her sister, Jeri (Ivers) Sweeney.
Bonnie was born on June 18, 1943, in Spokane, Washington, to Thomas and Marie Ivers – she was the third of five children. She knew a lifetime of close and caring communication with all her siblings. Bonnie’s childhood included living in Lima, Peru, and Caracas, Venezuela, where her dad was employed. She made friends wherever she lived, especially the lifelong friends made while attending Holy Names Academy in Spokane. Bonnie married Tom Brunton in 1972 and settled in Seattle. Their love for each other was strong and enduring. Bonnie shared a life of travel and adventure with Tom, journeying to places such as Chiapas, New York, Cape Town, Japan, and Dublin; taking road trips throughout the West to attend music concerts, art shows, and festivals; rafting down the Grand Canyon; and boating in the San Juan’s. Together, Bonnie and Tom took immense joy in raising their five Newfoundland dogs – Bonnie often sitting on the floor beside her Newfies, doting on them with affection.
A devoted wife, sister, daughter, aunt, cousin, and friend, Bonnie cherished family gatherings and celebrations, enjoying others’ stories and sharing her Irish wit and humor with her love for people. And we all loved her back!
Bonnie earned a master’s in counseling from Seattle Pacific University. She taught special education and was a counselor to students in both the Highline and Seattle School Districts. Her dedication earned her the love and respect of colleagues and students alike. In that same spirit, she served as a volunteer Eucharistic Minister at Christ Our Hope Catholic Church in Seattle, providing Holy Communion to individuals living in retirement homes.
Bonnie will be deeply missed, but her spirit will remain forever in our hearts.
Family and friends are invited to gather to share memories and honor the beautiful life of Bonnie Brunton on Saturday, January 31, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Christ Our Hope Catholic Church, 1902 Second Avenue, Seattle, WA 98101.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in loving memory of Bonnie to One Equal Heart Foundation, info@oneequalheart.org, (425)224-6165.
