Ann Watson King

April 27, 1941 — February 1, 2026

Ann Watson King, born in 1941 in Suffern, NY, to Rose and Herb Watson, passed away peacefully on February 1, 2026 surrounded by family.

Ann is survived by her three daughters: Kathleen King (Ed Wong), Deborah King (Jared Taylor), and Alison King. She was a proud and loving grandmother to Samantha, Sarah, Keith, and Iris. She is also survived by her sister, Kathy Elwell, nephew, John, and niece, Melanie. Ann was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Dr. Alan King.

Ann attended Wellesley College, graduating in 1963. She met Alan on a blind date, and they married in 1964. She was a lifelong learner who returned to higher education when her children were young to pursue her BSN in 1981 from the University of New Mexico College of Nursing, proudly graduating as a top scholar of her class. Ann was a dedicated nurse, holding leadership positions in a self-managed program in a hospital ICU, and working in outpatient nursing roles specializing in neurology and cardiology.

Beyond her professional achievements, Ann was deeply involved in her community. She was an active member of the First Unitarian Church of Albuquerque, where she volunteered at the food bank and taught youth sex education. She found great meaning and wonderful connections as a member of the "Spirit Sisters" women's spirituality group for over 15 years. She and Alan enjoyed classical music, spending decades attending the New Mexico Symphony Orchestra performances, and avidly supporting their children and grandchildren’s musical interests.

In retirement, Ann found joy in nature. She was a devoted volunteer at the Rio Grande Nature Center and an expert porcupine-spotter. She loved sharing her birdwatching knowledge and enthusiasm with others, as evidenced by the many photos she shared. She had a strong emotional connection to the New Jersey shore; her grandchildren fondly remember their summer visits to the shore with Grammy.

Ann lived her life with warmth, humor, and a remarkable resilience. She had a mischievous spirit and a love for a hearty laugh, enjoying a good sarcastic joke even in her last days. She was a listener and loved to draw out people’s stories with a kind curiosity about their experiences.

Ann leaves behind a lasting legacy of love, compassion, and joy. She will be remembered for the kindness she shared, the wisdom she imparted, and the many lives she touched with her generosity and grace. Ann’s energy and light will be missed by all who knew her.

A memorial gathering of close friends and family will be held in April. Donations in her honor can be made to the Rio Grande Nature Center or the First Unitarian Church of Albuquerque.
