Anne Laura Bassett Ehrhard
Anne Laura Bassett Ehrhard 1916 – 2009
Anne was born in Millet Ville, South Carolina to Helen Gould Ambrose Bassett and John Wesley Bassett. She lived in Florida and Montana before coming to Seattle in 1942 with her husband. Anne and Adolph (Chick) Ehrhard had three children – David, Carol and Mark.
In the 1950’s Anne owned a small 10 stool restaurant in the Madrona neighborhood and quickly became a lively fixture for many years. Anne stayed in the culinary business until she retired at age 76.
Anne began her recovery from alcoholism in 1971, quit smoking as well, and became a powerful sponsor to many other recovering alcoholics, profoundly touching them all. When she could no longer walk up the stairs at her favorite meeting, they started a meeting at the Council House where she lived. She was quite happy to have her friends close by at the Saturday 2:00pm meeting.
Anne was a rabid liberal and loved MSNBC. Often times I would call during the early evening and she would say “Can you call me after Rachel Maddow” and I would smile. We would have many lively discussions about Mr. Bush. Thank God she was able to see Barack Obama become our president, made her exceedingly happy.
Anne was preceded in death by her loving husband, Adolph (Chick), her son David and grandson Jeffery. She is with them now.
